“Goethe never saw it – but you can!”
Goethe’s Tower is one of the best panoramic spots in Karlovy Vary — even though the famous poet passed away 60 years before it was built. Today, the tower stands as a tribute to his love of the region and is a must-visit for every traveler.

A Glimpse into the Past

Built in 1889 in neo-Gothic style, the tower was originally named Franz Josef Tower in honor of the Austro-Hungarian emperor. In the 20th century, it was renamed Goethe’s Lookout (Goethova vyhlídka), honoring the poet who frequently visited Karlovy Vary and loved walking in this area.
