The thermal springs of Karlovy Vary are not only one of the city’s main attractions but also its defining symbol. These springs are formed in deep underground reservoirs located in a geothermal zone approximately 2000–3000 meters below the Earth’s surface. This endows them with their unique composition and healing properties.

But what makes these springs different, and which illnesses do they treat? Is there any variation between them, or is the water essentially the same?

Hot Springs in Karlovy Vary: What difference and What Do They Treat?

Today, 12 active thermal springs are utilized for therapeutic and tourist purposes in Karlovy Vary, though there are around 80 registered springs in the area. Many are closed or inaccessible to the public.

The primary differences between Karlovy Vary’s thermal springs are:

  1. Temperature: The hottest spring is Vřídlo (Geyser), reaching 72–73°C, while the coolest is Hadí pramen (Snake Spring) at 30°C.
