Karlovy Vary vs Mariánské Lázně: Which Spa Resort to Choose Choosing a spa resort can be difficult.…
Just a three-minute ride on the funicular and you’ll find yourself at one of the most famous landmarks of Karlovy Vary — the Diana Observation Tower. This is the best place to see the spa town from above and capture unforgettable panoramic views.

The Diana Tower was inaugurated in 1914 to celebrate the anniversary of Emperor Franz Joseph I. Since then, it has become a symbol of Karlovy Vary’s skyline and a favorite destination for tourists.
The tower stands on the Friendship Hill (562 m above sea level) and is itself 40 meters high. Visitors can climb to the top via 150 steps or take the elevator. For the early 20th century, having an elevator in an observation tower was a true rarity, highlighting Karlovy Vary’s status as an elite spa resort.
On clear days, the viewing platform offers spectacular views not only of Karlovy Vary but also of the Krkonoše Mountains and even parts of Germany.

The Diana Tower is part of a larger leisure area with plenty to explore:

From the tower, several forest trails lead to other viewpoints. If you head left, you’ll reach the legendary Deer Jump (Jelení skok) lookout and then the Peter the Great Viewpoint, both offering stunning perspectives of the town.
✨ The Diana Tower combines history, nature, and breathtaking panoramas. Even a short visit here will leave you with lasting impressions of Karlovy Vary from above.
